'Nectaroscordum siculum (Allium bulgaricum), the honey garlic, has completely stolen my attention. I am planting a lot this autumn and cannot wait for their elegant architectural appearance in late spring – they give so much bang for their buck, as they not only naturalise in sunny situations, but they grow tall with allium strength to around 3 foot and verticality and look beautiful even before they flower. Then the heads open into multiple drooping bells flowers of Verdigris green, maroon and cream. They are a pollinating favourite for bees and other insects. The flower heads dry and turn up, so the display ends with little mushroom like clusters on the stem. Elegant and striking in all its stages. In Bulgaria this summer I found it for sale in the local markets; crushed leaves as a bright green powder called samardala, used for delicious salt mixes and to honey garlic flavour to cooking and food."

Nectaroscordum siculum, or Sicilian honey garlic is a fine species that brings magic to the mid border with large, nodding umbels of pinkish purplish greenish flowers. No garden should be without these beauties, they are irresistible, not only to the human senses but to those of our bee friends and other pollinators too.
Also ideal for gravel gardens and the seed pods can be dramatic when used as a dried flower.
