Description:
Originating from Central Asia, Allium Schoenoprasum is a perennial herb with a mild onion taste and curly mauve and purple flowers. Part of the medicinal plants genre, this herb is commonly known as the chive plant, whose pale purple flowers will attract pollinators to your garden in the summer months and will provide delicious flavour to summer salads.
Chives are rich in organosulfur compounds, flavonoids and antioxidants, offering anti-inflammatory effects for arthritis, antimicrobial activity and are used as a remedy for sore throats, contain immune support and are anti-aging due to their high antioxidant content, protecting skin from free radicals.
Additional Information & Planting instructions:
Grow in full sun to partial shade in moist but well-drained fertile soil. Plant bulbs 10-12cm deep, 20cm apart. Keep the soil moist but not soggy. Drought-tolerant once established. Snip leaves regularly to encourage growth. Cut back flower stalks, post-bloom to promote foliage.
