“A plant is only worth growing if it looks good when it is dead.”
– Piet Oudolf, Dutch garden designer

Echinacea purpurea Magnus, also know as Magnus purple coneflower is strong and robust with large deep-pink flat flowers. Standing alone 80cm tall in flower or brilliantly through grasses, their basal deep green leafy clumps are not as fine as their proud single stemmed spiky orange cones that bounce above grass seed heads and perennial plant froth in late summer, catching the warm tones of late summer sun; they are long blooming, their orange glowing flower centres and the vintage pink tones of petal will change and fade in time.

There are nine species of coneflower, all native to central or eastern North America, purple coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) is the most common. The plant & root have incredible medicinal and healing potential, so a pesticide and neonicitinoid free stock will ensure healthful harvesting for human consumption.

Coneflowers are tolerant of most growing conditions but prefer well drained soil and full sun. Once established they are drought tolerant. Cut back the foliage in Autumn leaving the seed heads for the birds.

This variety has particularly good flat flowers. Best in sun in a rich soil.
